  • If I'm remembering the movie correctly (cause this is one of the few horror movies I absolutely adore the hell out since I'm not a big horror fan) I believe the vital monitoring bit isnt as big of a plot hole cause in the movie everyone kind of starts celebrating early as the final girl is about to be killed cause as they said, whether she lives or dies, they've completed their goal with everyone else dying. So they arent paying attention (you also have to remember that all of the other horror events happening had all failed, leaving these guys as the last chance to prevent the old ones destruction) so of course running on a clock basically it was a relief cause they thought it was all over. It seems pretty stupid but when you take into account all that's happening at all times through the movie, it makes sense that they didnt pay attention to the vitals

  • I also love cabin in the woods and I don't know if I consider the suprise stoner survival to be an actual plot hole considering the events are so, for lack of a better word, engineered. They have the most important position presumably. Their control board is massive. And there's only two of them. Other departments from what we see look to be much larger. Is it a plot hole that human error might occur in a human designed ritual? Every other destination failed and they were very American and arrogant about their odds of success. They were confident because the buckners had a 100% clearance rate.

  • See here's the thing. If Chris Hemsworth had ran into the forcefield without the bird in the beginning foreshadowing it (beautifully I might add) the same people who say it would've been more entertaining without the bird would have then been saying there was no precedent for the forcefield and hated it.

  • There is actually a scene in which Hadley, Sitterson, and Lin acknowledge that they don't have confirmation of Marty's death - however, this occurs after the Japan ritual fails and things start to spiral out of control. The implication is that - being overwhelmed by the fact that the fate of the world is, in fact, resting solely on their shoulders - they forget to confirm the kill on Marty, as they're preoccupied with the tunnel collapse and making sure that Curt and Holden are killed. Then once they've achieved that, they're so eager to celebrate ("TEQUILA IS MY LADYYYY") that they fail their responsibility on the most basic level. Maybe I'm misreading things, but I love this movie a lot and I think it's even smarter than a lot of people give it credit for!

  • I forgot about the bird flying into the wall my first viewing. On my second, it felt to me like one of those moments where the writers/directors "show the gun" in the first act, which means they have to bring it back at a key moment. Which they did adeptly. That the "final" act for one storyline is the second act, then we get this over-the-top third act, makes me adore this film. Easily my favorite horror film, and one of my favorite films of all time.

  • Cabin in the Woods is Definitely one of the greatest horror movies, and one of my faves. I appreciated James take on the "engineers representing us - the audience", but I think that Actually the more sensible analogy would be that we, the audience, are the elder gods, with the engineers being the movie makers, who of course can be a part of the audience as well. The fact that the gods are only appeased by the sacrifice of particular archetypes, in a particular fashion or order, and that the whole ritual has to go through certain steps/beats, only indicate it more and more as a satire of how most horror movies are made, and that it has to be done right, based on some outliers and time proven rules to satisfy the people who crave to watch them.
