  • Actually, this movie was inspired by 1977's Kingdom of the Spiders starring William Shatner! You guys should totally check it out

  • I remember watching this with my mom as a kid. She was legit so creeped out, as she was laying on the couch she kept kicking her legs whenever the spiders jumped/scurried/etc. and she ended up breaking the arm of the couch 🤣. I myself didn't exit unscathed as I couldn't take a shit for months without checking literally every square inch of my toilet in case one was hiding out somewhere haha

  • I didn't see any one clear up the pasta thing, so let me explain. This is still a line that could and probably does get written today. It has nothing to do with the word pasta really. Cuz I do this too. I grew up in New Jersey, I'm full Italian. I've lived in California now for over half my life and let me tell you, the "italian" food out here is FAR from 😂 so the joke is more to the overall quality and it being so bad you can't even call it pasta. Think of Goodfellas when he says it's just noodles with ketchup. Same concept.

  • 26:15 I just have to say that I think this gag is funny, but specifically based on an experience I had in high school. I was taking an anatomy and physiology class and one day we were able to go on a field trip to a morgue. When we got there, we took a tour and did a write-up, then ate lunch before heading into the lab portion of the outing. We were able to examine an open cadaver, hold some of the organs, and talk to some of the doctors about behind-the-scenes stuff and common myths. It was after this, as we were leaving the building and driving back to school, where most of the class started talking about snacks and being hungry - and then we drove past some restaurant that smelled like burgers and the whole bus LOST THEIR MINDS. Everyone was so hungry and our teacher finally explained that one of the chemicals used often when dealing causes the hunger sensors in our brains to activate. I can't remember the chemical, so sorry for not being specific, but I can never forget that experience, and it makes me chuckle every time I see that gag.

  • Thank you guys for everything you do. You helped me learn to respect the horror genre that I never understood before. I've learned so much through your podcasts and kill counts. And while I fell off the wagon of watching for a while, the past couple of weeks you've been a real lifeline. When everything felt bleak and almost nothing sounded worthwhile anymore, the thought of sitting and listening to you two talk about what you love still sounds good. Things feel a little less bad after listening and learning with your videos. I'm sure I'm not the only one who you've made a difference for. So really, thank you.

  • This is my favorite horror movie of all time because I'm legit afraid of spiders. Most horror movies make me laugh, but this one has me hiding in the blankie because something close to this could really happen in real life. I mean, the Asian giant hornet could easily be the spider from the movie.

  • Tarantulas are not vocal animals at all. It just wouldn't make sense for tarantulas to be vocal. They have venom. They are venomous invertebrates, they have no reason to hiss. The only vocal invert I am aware exists are Madagascan hissing cockaroaches. Those hiss, then again, that's about their only way of warding off predators. Crickets make their weird leg sounds, but that not a vocal sound. Pretty much no vocal invertabrates that exist except for those cockaroaches, but that's about it.

So when the Mom starts having health issues and can't come home my heart sank. I started tearing up then turned to my wife and said through tears, "This is kids movie, they wouldn't kill a sick mom, right!?!"

  • Spiders are far more evolved than you're claiming. While we're talking about spider myths, brown recluse venom doesn't cause necrosis (the staph they carry is what causes dangerous bites in an unlucky few), black widows aren't as venomous as the media makes them out to be, and there are no other medically significant spiders in the US or Canada. I have no issues with this movie - I really like it, actually - but I do have a problem with the common misinformation people believe. If you want to kill spiders because you don't like them or whatever, it's not my business, but don't tell yourself you're doing it for safety reasons unless you live in the heart of brown recluse country (and they aren't very widespread), and don't assume they're nothing more than impulses and instincts; they do in fact think on some level. (Oh, and fish are smart. Goldfish actually have good memories and can be trained. Fish can form strong bonds with each other and with people. And they do feel pain. Again, if people don't give a shit, that's fine. I just would rather people know more on the subject so they can make informed decisions.) Yeah, I like spiders. I realize most people don't and that's fine, but just own it instead of justifying it. Also if you think spiders are creepy, I can't recommend looking at videos of jumping spiders enough. They're what convinced me that I didn't need to break out in a cold sweat every time I tried to catch a spider in my home. Makes my life a lot easier, since spiders love my home for some reason.

And it was more one or two at a time or 4 in a clump that just shot out and fell on the ground leaving some stuck in the elephant to never come out.

  • Gasing trees was (maybe still is) a true method for collecting insects, specially in tropical ecosystems. This said, spiders aren't insects, together with scorpions they're arachnids, and the most obvious difference is the number of legs (6 vs 8). Do Lavalantula! It's sharknado with spiders and volcanos. Or the one with killer tomatoes. It's a jewel.
