  • The first name of the main character, Cecilia, is derived from the Latin Caecus which means blind or eyeless, Appropriately, she cannot see the Invisible Man. She is frequently called 'C' in the film, which, obviously, is pronounced like 'see.' The opening sequence originally had original music written for it, but Leigh Whannell and the sound design team felt it worked better with silence and the sound of the crashing waves. No actors' names appear at the beginning of the film. The outside wall of the mental institution has a graffiti piece depicting Billy the Puppet, the doll the Jigsaw Killer uses in Saw (2004). Director Leigh Whannell wrote and starred in Saw (2004)

  • I was of a similar opinion to James, except a lot of these moments took the believability out of the film for me. The points frustrated me so much that I couldn’t love the film because of it. Still a good film though

  • 44:57 i think it's because they think she's not well mentally, but the dad still needs to protect his kid. Also, her recent behaviours and panic attacks snowballing into this attack isn't far fetched. I remember punching my dad outta nowhere. I was shy goody two shoes but had these months of build up of anxiety, depression and trauma from bullying. My parents tell me how I punched hard, they were terrified of their 14 year old shy girl and then I went blank for minutes. So it's absolutely possible after years of abuse.

  • 20:01. I had a different interpretation about the shoes when I saw the movie. When you compare what she wears for most of the movie to the clothes she has in Adrian's closet, and the final dinner scene, it's all fancy dresses and heels, but none of it feels like it's hers, she's just wearing an extension of him, (and she did say that he controlled what she would wear). So I saw her decision to wear tracksuits and comfy pants and trainers was her autonomous decision to free herself from his influence and wear what she felt comfortable in.

  • The Invisible Man is a fun and engaging movie, but it has problems that Dead Meat's review chooses to overlook. A cursory look at even a few IMDb user reviews and you get a more accurate view of the movie. Dead Meat's review is forgiving to say the least. There is no discussion around Elizabeth Moss's character being a bad or questionable person for ultimately staging her husband's suicide and using her only friend as a pawn to substantiate her lie about it. Or that she's able to wear and perfectly operate a piece of hi tech equipment that wasn't designed for her body shape and that she'd only seen once and never worn or operated, beyond accidentally turning it on.

  • I know you spoke a little about Adrian's motivations for impregnating Cecelia (i.e. to create an 'unbreakable' bond) and while I do think that's a part of it, I also feel like it's strongly implied that Adrian can and will kill Cecelia after the baby is born if he chooses to. It's a way to create someone who is him and his, to extend 'his' legacy. Once it's clear that shes not going to be the dutiful victim who'll take care of him and the home, she's instead just an incubator for him who can be disposed of afterwards. There's also the way that it feels like Adrian never really intended to pay Cecelia the money - he has the inheritance hinge on her being of sound mind, then does everything he can to make her "crazy", for example - Adrian always puts forward deals where he doesn't actually lose anything. And the deal where he loses nothing from Cecelia's pregnancy is one where she gives birth, he gets an heir, and she dies before he has to give her freedom or money.

  • 42:20 The sister was probably the first to realise that Adrian was abusive to Cecilia but Cecilia back then was probably at the point where she thought Adrian loved her and convinced herself that she made him abuse her even though he chose to. He probably played the sisters against each other as well probably by telling Cecilia something like "Oh she's just jealous I'm with you and not her."

  • I felt so annoyed people kept saying the trailer for this spoiled too much by revealing that the Invisible Man was real. Like, hello? It was a modernization of the Invisible Man, of course he was going to exist. That was never going to be the twist or surprise. Anyway, I really loved the camera work and suspenseful elements added to this movie, it was exceptionally well done. Also I do agree that there were definitely moments where there was no reason for people not to believe her. Also Adrian left witnesses alive to intentionally frame his brother. It was also likely his brother who was at the house who she ran into.

  • This movie was such a mixed bag from me. The opening was one of the most suspensful sequences I've seen in a movie in a long time, and it had so many scenes like this that really struck a cord with me. That being said, there are a lot of storytelling decisions (like Sydney thinking Cecilia punched her from across the room) that were very poorly written. I thought it started out strong, but by the end was it was a big mess.

You know this because when he turned to leave they then show her pick up the gun from behind him and chase after him. So she could have picked the gun up earlier

  • Her being locked up for murder is also a power play by Adrian. She’s captive in a cell and no one can get to her but him. And with the invisible suit wether he is there or not she will always be paranoid about it.

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • She was planning to bring the cops to the suit, and dint want to risk getting the suit taken (y’all came to the right conclusion). I would’ve also tried to run away with it. But that’s why she’s smarted then we are. She’s been dealing with years of this and so she knows more then we do.

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • There is an added level of paranoia and horror that I think people who are victims of abuse would think of: the idea of you’re abuser is HAUNTING you as a ghost. That even after death they have full access to you. And this movie has that aspect of it until it’s confirmed that he’s still alive. It also plays into the invisible man aspect: ghost or suit. P.s she’s gets them a ladder cuz James mentioned that he needed a new later (I forget why)

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • When people think you’re “crazy” they believe anything. Especially when they think you’re having a mental breakdown so they assume youre prone to violence. So it makes sense that he believe his daughter.

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • The email of her saying “I wish you were dead” is just more proof for Adrian to use against her. Especially when he kills her sister.

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • Newspapers post false information all the time. As long as they have people in the right place at the right time and enough money to pay them off.

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • James, you have to realize that a lot of victims of abused are given literally 0 belief. Even if all of the information and evidence is on there side, the people around them will still not believe then and coin them “crazy”. I would’ve loved for her to have blatantly said that in that when they were in the police department and he was still saying she was over reacting, I think she would e been justified in say “you keep saying that but I’ve been right about everything so far. Why do you feel the need to tell me I’m crazy. Think about why you don’t believe me.”

    Bi_TopiaBi_Topia5 mánuðum síðan
  • I’m just realizing that she was 100% right when she yelled at her sister for coming there. He faked her death, and then followed the sister to the house to find her. But during the movie when the main character is yelling at her sister with, “why did you come here. He couldve followed you.” And the sister is like “calm down I came to tell you he’s dead”. We as the audience are suppose to be thinking ‘see you were freaking out for nothing’. But she was 100% right, she got it 100% right becuz she was the one living through it.
